So a new feature just got shipped on Brethreign!
You can find it on the feed, where it says you can connect to your brethren. It then suggests people you might know, judging from the information you’ve provided.
Now, this breath is not just to alert you to the new feature, but rather to expose some hidden truths about this platform.
Take note of the use of words when you have a mutual connection with the person the platform suggests to you. It reads: “X mutual brothers” or “X mutual sisters.”
A normal Gen Z mind would wonder… “Y’all still be calling yourselves brother/sister in this 21st century???”
And my answer to that is: Yes, we do! And very proudly at that.
In the African setting, “brother” or “sister” is an honorific attached to names, normally used to show respect or honour to older ones. And no, honour is not old-fashioned; it is spiritual and is a core tenet of the Gospel!(1 Peter 2:17)
But I’d like you to know that the use of these honorifics on this platform is not tied to African culture. It is not because the founder is an old-school African. Rather, it has a much deeper spiritual significance.
So, according to the Gospel, who is a brother?
According to the words of a renowned Teacher of the Gospel, Professor of Eternal Life and Soul Surgeon (ifykyk), a brother is a confirmed disciple. So this applies to both male and female.
It is a title given to one who is now born again and has begun to learn Christ’s doctrine. But beyond being a title, it is a high status in the spirit, which represents that a work, a formation, has been wrought on the inside of a man. From Matthew 12:50, it is clear that will-doers are the true nature of that title and that is no small feat in the spirit.
These are high expectations on the status of a brother, and even though every believer may not be measuring up to it yet, everyone is called brother in hope. Romans 4:17b
So you see, it is not just ordinary that we call ourselves brother or sister on this platform, and neither is it our African descent getting the better of us. Rather, it is highly spiritual, and it is an expression of the God-Culture.
Brethreign is here to take us back to the way of the beginning, even in the media space, as that has become a big part of our lives in this generation.
And don’t get it twisted… “back to the beginning” does not mean becoming old-fashioned or archaic. It means going back to the way God intended things to be in the beginning: the original intention of God concerning our economy and our life on earth. Jeremiah 6:16
So do well to connect with the “Brethren you may know,” especially those with whom you have mutual brothers and sisters. And through connecting, you can upgrade that brother or sister to a friend. 😉
Wishing you many productive connections!
Let’s examine who a friend is in the next issue, yeah?
